If all were lost................

Whenever we have a thunderstorm, I always joke that I need a generator for my sewing machine. I run a small design/sewing business on Etsy, and I can never seem to keep up with my orders. SO, if I would even lose electricity for even a short amount of time in my "prime" sewing hours, I would be in some serious trouble.

It got me thinking.............. What if all were lost? What if life as we know it ceased to exist?

I'm not talking Biblic apocalypse here, I'm talking about modern life as we know it. Have we completely lost the ability to survive?

We're an incredibly intelligent generation of human beings. We know how to extract DNA, cure and treat disease, and use Google.

WHAT IF GOOGLE NO LONGER EXISTED?

An utterly ridiculous question, right? Are we idiots? We have brain surgeons and rocket scientists, surely we could find our own fresh, potable water in the wilderness, right? Or COULD we?

Do you know how to bring down a fever without tylenol? Or how long to boil things on a fire before they're sterile? Do you know which wild mushrooms are safe to eat, or how to pluck a turkey after killing it? Do you know how to smoke meat, or make candles for light after the sun goes down?

Could you be resourceful and imaginative enough to survive if all else were lost?

NO.

I don't think we could.

I think this generation is perhaps the most intellectually deficient population that has ever inhabited this Earth.

Charles Darwin said,
"In the struggle for survival, the fittest win out at the expense of their rivals because they succeed in adapting themselves best to their environment."

Have we really "survived"? Has modern science and our false sense of knowledge thanks to Google stopped REAL evolution dead in it's tracks?

Do you ever feel like our own stupidity and dependence on everything BUT our "evolved" intellect, as well as our complete inability to keep ourselves alive without it, will be how the end will come?

What if the "end of the world" simply means an end to everything we use TO survive?

What if you woke up tomorrow and there were no internet? No electricity or running water. No food in your pantry and no stores to purchase more. What if your money meant nothing, because no one knew how to make things with their own two hands TO sell to you? What if a doctor couldn't deliver a baby without a set of sterile instruments? What if you didn't know how to find safe water to drink, or where to build a safe shelter for when the weather gets cold?

Could you survive?

Could you handle living in that kind of world if you did?

Did you ever think that maybe those that survive the "apocalypse" won't be the ones that have stockpiled batteries and potassium iodide tablets in their basement bomb shelter, but those that have educated themselves in all those basic, primitive survival skills that modern society has conveniently forgot?

If you were left to start time over, COULD YOU?
